Another tool I want to introduce under this title is Retina from eEye Digital Security.

Retina is a proactive vulnerability assessment tool with customizable options. It can discover the assets on a given network, including operating systems, applications, services, databases and wireless devices.

In Retina we have the ability of a short Discovery Scan, where we get the IP address, name, DNS name, OS and MAC address of the target system. We can then do some remediate job after that. A Complete Scan can be based on two different templates: Complete Scan and FBI-SANS Top 20.

After our scan we get a graphically supported report. Below is a snapshot:

On the Audit tab, we can see the vulnerabilities, their risk levels and descriptions of the target system:
